George Kearsley Selden Jr. was born in 1917 in Atlanta and was graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He moved to Charlotte in the 1940s, where he served as a market forecaster and demographer for Southern Bell. In 1975, Selden opened his own market consulting business.
